How Companies Can Take Advantage of Digital Marketing

Marketing is essential to the success of nearly all entrepreneurial endeavors. It helps to get potential customers engaged, creates repeat business, can build brand credibility, and can maximize profits. Therefore, it is essential to understand the best marketing practices within today’s world. The role of technology in our lives is increasing exponentially. As more and more of what people do involves the internet, traditional marketing becomes less and less effective. It is essential that today’s businesses go to the internet to get customer’s attention, rather than waiting for customers to get off of the internet and notice them.

Digital marketing includes any online or technological form of advertising or advocating for a product or service. Each piece of digital marketing should move a company closer towards its long-term goals. Digital marketing allows companies to use customer’s online habits as a tool, rather than an obstacle to be overcome. The end goal is to grab the attention of consumers, and digital marketing is now the best and one of the only remaining ways to effectively do so. Furthermore, the targeted marketing that can be done on digital platforms is unparalleled in potential. To sell a product, you must offer it to the customer at the right time in the right place, and with the right price. Digital marketing expands the horizons of what communities a company can reach with their product or service. It can serve as the connection between a receptive audience and a great purchase. Many companies have shied away from learning new concepts in regard to digital marketing (Alexander), but I would urge anyone trying to sell anything to learn about the amazing opportunities presented in technology driven future of sales.

Traditional marketing typically uses print formats, phone calls, and physical advertisements. Consumers now rely on digital marketing, dragging down the value of traditional marketing techniques. To be successful, businesses must make the same shift over to the digital world. Fortunately, the online world presents a plethora of opportunities for marketing that the world has never before seen.

Digital marketing uses resources such as websites, social media, and search engines to access more customers than ever before. Although it may seem intimidating, the principles of marketing online remain the same as with older methods; it simply reaches today’s customers in ways old methods cannot. Today, most purchasing decisions begin on the internet (Henneberry). Ideally, most marketing will also center around an online environment where customers are receptive to new ideas. Because people looking to make a purchase begin on the internet, being accessible through several mediums including a website, social media, and email can help to build a base of customer contact points. These contact points can be made even more effective through the use of online advertising and Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Together, all of these tools can create a cohesive portfolio to easily attract and help customers.

Search engine optimization is one of the best ways to get your website noticed online. It makes sure that customers see your site as one of the first links to pop up when they’re searching for good or services that you provide. Most people only visit websites from the first few options provided by their search engine (The HOTH). Therefore, optimizing the number of times your site pops up in searches is vital to your success. In addition to attracting a large number of visits to a website, it is important that the people visiting are interested in your content. This allows you to push your service or good all the way through. Because SEO is just achieving better business growth through optimal search engine results, it can be applied to businesses in almost every field.  SEO looks at common search term, what kind of content is popular, advertising in other places, and building a good website (The HOTH). Together, all of these steps create the best experience for the customer, while still pulling them into an ecosystem of the goods and services you can offer them. Key terms and the content of a page itself can increase a site’s visibility, especially when commonly used phrases are found in the website itself. Furthermore, having your site linked other places makes it much more likely to have traffic from all kinds of prospective customers. On the back end of a website, making sure the coding is in order, and that the website loads quickly will prevent any potential customers from giving up on your services. Combined, all of these techniques ensure that a website is shown to as many customers as possible.

Content marketing is a great way to impact the general perception of a brand and can be efficiently addressed through digital techniques. Blog post-style articles can bring customers with questions to your site itself, making it easier to build a strong relationship with your customer base. E-books can help to add credibility to the claims made by your company, and build up a repertoire of information at the fingertips of your consumers (Alexander). Infographics are a great way to engage customers who are otherwise uninterested or apathetic towards the information you have for them.

Social Media can bring new consumers into your website and brand. Platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Snapchat, and Pinterest have proven to be particularly useful (Alexander). The more contact points an individual has with your product, the more likely they are to seek out more information, and even potentially purchase the goods or services you offer. Therefore, being as versatile as possible in the routes of interaction with the customers of digital spaces is  integral to the evolution of a company towards a digital marketing strategy.

Digital marketing is essential to the success of any modern business. Tools like SEO, websites, and social media are just a few of the resources available for the industry. Although the digital world is largely different from traditional marketing practices, it can continue, and even improve upon a company’s legacy of advertising, and create long-term growth for nearly every industry.
